At Prinsengracht 769 in Amsterdam, three 19th-century canal houses once stood, until they were lost to flames. These buildings were part of the city’s iconic canal belt, where architecture ranged from modest warehouses to grand, luxurious townhouses.
On that very spot, the Prinsengracht Hospital later arose, a 19th-century national monument that served as a hospital and outpatient clinic for more than 150 years. In 2014, its medical function came to an end, and today the building is a vibrant place where creativity, entrepreneurship, and history meet.
Het Pandje: a design that reimagines a lost building as a solid, enduring form. More than a miniature, it embodies the very essence of the canal house, Amsterdam’s most international symbol. A timeless emblem of connection, it supports the objects we hold closest in our daily lives, our phones, tablets, and keepsakes items that link people across distances, carry ideas across borders, stimulate trade, and unite cultures, just as the canal houses have done for centuries along the city’s waterways.
Crafted with precision, each piece is machine-cut from high-density foam and hand-coated with a durable silicone-acrylic finish. The result is a water-, heat-, and UV-resistant surface, a contemporary, sustainable counterpart to the wooden and stone houses once so vulnerable to fire.
Het Pandje is more than an object. It is a gift from the city to the world: a contemporary luxury souvenir, a design piece of timeless presence, and a companion for everyday use, at home, in the office, or on your travels. A piece of Amsterdam to keep close, wherever life takes you.
